Untitled Document
Wairarapa

The Wairarapa, the region’s Maori name meaning ‘glistening waters’, is situated on the very lower corner of the North Island and encompasses three main winemaking sub-regions; Masterton, Gladstone and Martinborough. Masterton can boast that they are the home of the first grapes planted in the region, however it is the small town of Martinborough that is the 'heart' of the Wairarapa wine region. The region enjoys hot, dry summers, cooler nights and frosty winters and it is this combined with the Ruamahunga River's influence on its surrounding terroir, that gives the wines of this region such clean and diverse textural character.
